Biography

Indian freestyle wrestler Sushil Kumar competed at three Olympics, winning a silver medal at London 2012 and bronze at Beijing 2008. He was World Champion at 66 kg in 2010. Kumar was Commonwealth Champion in 2003, 2005, and 2007 and won a bronze medal at the 2003 Asian Championships. In a rare foray into Greco-Roman Kumar added a bronze medal at the 2005 Commonwealth Championships.

In October 2022 Kumar was arrested with 17 associates and charged with the murder of former Indian junior wrestling champion Sagar Dhankar in May 2022 in New Delhi in a property dispute. The actual charges were murder, attempted murder, rioting, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery, wrongful restraint, robbery, robbery and attempting to cause death or grievous hurt and criminal intimidation. The trial was set to take place in November 2022.
