Biography

Jamie Korab won his first provincial title in Newfound and Labrador, Canada as a junior, which allowed him to participate in the 1997 Canadian Junior Championships. Although he failed to win at that event, the two-time Harbour Grace Athlete of the Year (1995 and 1997) was undeterred and in 2000 joined Brad Gushue’s rink (team) as second, getting closer to victory by finishing as runner-up at the 2000 junior national championships and later winning gold at the 2001 Junior World Championships. The following year he began competing above the junior level and won his first two non-junior provincial championships in 2003 and 2004 as Gushue’s second. He then moved to the lead position for the 2004-2005 season and won another provincial title but, more significantly, captured the 2005 Olympic trials and earned the right to represent Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Although they took home Canada’s first Olympic gold in men’s curling that year, Korab was cut from the lineup in 2007 due to issues with the team’s chemistry. He joined a rink skipped (captained) by Mark Noseworthy, and which also contained the alternate for the 2006 Olympic tournament Mike Adam, for the 2007-2008 season, but returned to Gushue’s squad in 2008. Together they participated in the 2009 Olympic trials, but did not make it to the semifinals. As of 2010 he is still competing on Team Gushue and works as a computer operator on the side.
