Biography

Russell “Chick” Dermond was US champion in kayak doubles in 1955, 1956 (tied), 1958, and 1961, competing with various partners. He also helped his Yonkers Canoe Club kayak four to the 1958 US Championship. Dermond later was important in sports administration with the American Canoe Association (ACA), serving as team manager at the 1972 Olympics. He was on the Board of Directors of the ACA for several years.
