Biography

A 9-handicap player, Andrés Gazzotti won the US Open in 1931 when Gazzotti, Juan and José Reynal and Manuel Andrada beat Hurricanes 11-8 at Meadow Brook. Selected to play at number three for his country at the 1936 Olympics, Gazzotti captained the side and scored three goals in each of Argentina’s games; the 15-5 win over Mexico and the 11-0 victory over Great Britain in the gold medal match.

Six weeks later Gazzotti was a member of the Argentine side that beat the USA to win the Cup of the Americas for the first time and he scored three goals in the 21-9 rout in the first match. He won his only Argentine Open in 1938, with Los Indios at the age of 42. He also won the 1947 Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires with La Concepción. His other victories included the Hurlingham Open Championship, Jockey Club Cup, 9 de Julio Cup, and the Anchorena Cup. Gazzotti was considered the top Argentine player for several seasons.
