Biography

Sergey Kachurin was an épée fencer who was a two-time national champion of Kyrgyzstan. In 2008 Kachurin won gold at the Asian Championships in Bangkok to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. At the Beijing Games he suffered a narrow defeat in the first round to the French fencer Fabrice Jeannet, with Jeannet eventually going on to win silver. After his fencing career Kachurin became a consultant for the national modern pentathlete team. He was only 47-years-old when he died of a sudden cardiac arrest in October 2020.
