Biography

Sisto Favre was a writer, journalist, essayist, lecturer, and man of thought and literature who dedicated his life mainly to sport, as an athlete, manager, and scholar of Olympic history and philosophy. He was a member of the International Olympic Academy and the Burckardt International Academy, and served as the President of Panathlon International.

Favre’s works include Arte e Sport nell’Antico Egitto (Art and Sport in Ancient Egypt), Civiltà arte e sport (Civilization art and sport), L’ideale sportivo da Vittorino da Feltre a Carl Diem (The sporting ideal from Vittorino da Feltre to Carl Diem), Olimpismo e Civiltà (Olympism and Civilization), and Homo Olimpicus.

For his works, Sisto Favre was awarded the Minerva d’Oro Raniero Nicolai Prize (1963), the Grand Prix du Dirigeant Sportif (Limoges, 1965), the Annibal Caro Prize (1968), the gold medal of the Bancarella Sport Award (1970), the Marco Aurelio Award of Merit (1977), and the Olympic Order in Silver (1983), presented to him by IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch.
