Alexander Chapman spent his life dedicated to sports administration in Trinidad and Tobago. Chapman, a former weightlifter, served with the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee for more than three decades. In 1964 he was appointed as the Secretary General of the organisation, staying in the role until becoming their President in 1989, and leading the committee until 1997. His influence spread far and wide, with him being an honorary Vice-President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organisation, as well as being made a lifetime Vice-President of the Commonwealth Games Federation. In recognition for his work Chapman was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1996. Since 2017 the Alexander B Chapman Award has been presented at the annual TTOC Awards for an individual’s services to sport.
