Biography

Michael Reidy was a native of Ohio but moved to Guam in 1974 and lived there for the next 40 years. He was the first President of the Guam National Olympic Committee, serving in that role for 10 years. Reidy’s service career started in 1969 as a Peace Corps volunteer in Somalia and East Africa. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard

Reidy worked in government in Guam, starting in 1974 as a planner in the Department of Public Works, and with the Bureau of Planning from 1975-78, serving as acting director from 1977-78. He was later an executive assistant to Thomas V. C. Tanaka, speaker of the 16th Guam Legislature. In 1986 Reidy was made director of the Bureau of Budget and Management Research, and in 1990 he was elected to the Guam Senate.

In addition to his Olympic leadership, Reidy was active in the Guam Running Club, Guam Water Polo Club, Guam Amateur Sports Federation, and the Guam fishing community. He eventually retired to Frederick, Maryland, where he died in 2021.
