Yuri Məmmədov

The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Milli Olimpiya Komitəsi) was founded in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union with Yuri Məmmədov serving as the organisations first President. Azerbaijan competed as an independent nation at the Olympics for the first time at the 1996 Atlanta Games, sending a delegation of 23 athletes. Məmmədov later served as the chair of the Azerbaijan State Physical Education and Sports Committee.
