Soulé Dankoro had a long military and political career in Benin, with him also serving as a senior sports administrator in the country. Dankoro was a colonel in the Beninese Army and went on to study military medicine in France. Skilled as a doctor, he became the Minister of Health for the People’s Revolutionary Party of Benin. After the party later dissolved, Dankoro founded the Democratic Party of Benin in the mid-1990s, becoming an MP in the country’s elections in 1999. He later served as Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Transport. In 1982 Dankoro also had a brief tenure as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Benin.
