Biography

Colonel Gulam Mohammad Khan joined the Indian Military Academy in 1973 where he competed in polo and eventing. From 1980 to 1990 Khan was the captain of the Army Service Corps team, which won six equestrian team titles during this time, in addition to Khan winning four individual eventing titles. At the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi he won gold in the team competition and an individual silver. For his performance he was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1984. At the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul he won two team bronze medals, one in dressage and the other in eventing. Khan had previously competed in the individual and team events at the 1980 Moskva Olympics but failed to finish in both.

After his retirement from competing Khan became a coach and was awarded for his work in the planning, construction, and organisation of equestrian centres in India. He later worked as a judge for the International Equestrian Federation.
