Fernand Bonnet competed in track cycling at the 1908 London Olympics. Trained as a hairdresser, cycling results are known for him from 1907-14, mostly in road races.
In 1907 Bonnet finished ninth at Paris-Amiens, while in 1908 he was second in that event and second at Paris-Auxerre. In 1911 he placed third in Paris-Château-Thierry-Paris, and raced at the Tour de France as an independent. He won Paris-Honfleur in 1912 and in 1913 placed 13th at Paris-Roubaix. He was third at Paris-Roubaix in 1914 and won Paris-Calais that year.
Bonnet also had extensive military service, first serving in 1908. He was called back to the military in 1914 to fight in World War I, joining the Coursy barracks at Épinal in 4 August 1914. Assigned to the 10th Company, Bonnet quickly became ill, but he recovered. He was in Verdun in 1916 when he was mortally injured in March of that year.
