Throughout the 1930s Swedish cyclist Berndt Carlsson won multiple amateur races and national titles. In 1934 Carlsson had triple success at the Swedish road race championships when he won the individual title, the individual time trial, and the team time trial. He continued his good form in the time trial, winning the individual and team titles in 1935 and 1936, followed by two more team titles in 1937 and 1938. In 1935 Carlsson won the Skandisloppet, the oldest one-day cycling race in Sweden. With his consistent performances he was selected to compete in road race at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Carlsson also competed in speed skating in addition to working as a bicycle mechanic in Stockholm.
