Dick Johnstone was a New Zealand cyclist and coach. Johnstone was born in Invercargill and won the New Zealand national road race championship in 1957. In 1960 Johnstone won the inaugural edition of New Zealand’s six-day race. Three years later he won both the Tour of Southland and the Tour of Waikato. Johnstone represented New Zealand at the 1958 and 1962 Commonwealth Games. Two years later Johnstone competed in two events at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics with a best result of 17th place in the road race. Following his cycling career Johnstone became a coach. He coached the national team from 1976 to 1994. Johnstone was also selected as an official for the 1986 and 1984 Commonwealth Games.
