Biography

Scott Mercier was a road racer who competed in the team time trial at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. After the Olympics he turned professional and rode with the Saturn team from 1993-96. He had several stage wins in smaller US-based stage races. In 1997 he moved to the US Postal Service team, and rode the Vuelta a España. However, Mercier moved away from big-time cycling that year after he was asked to take PEDs and refused to do so.

Mercier then competed for a few years in smaller races, and then moved to Hawai’i, where he helped his father run a restaurant. Shortly after that Mercier returned to western Colorado and became a financial advisor. He also bought several branches of chain restaurants and ran them.
