From the mid-1950s to the early 1960s Venezuelan cyclist Antonio Montilla enjoyed success at the Central American and Caribbean Games, winning seven medals including three golds. Montilla won his first medal at the Games at the 1954 edition in Mexico City with silver in the 4,000 metres team pursuit. Five years later in Caracas he went one better in the team pursuit to win gold, along with another gold in the road race and silver in the team road race. Montilla competed at his final Central American and Caribbean Games in 1962 in Kingston, Jamacia, where he won gold in the team road race, and bronze in both the individual and team pursuit on the track.
In 1956 Montilla competed on both the road and track at the Melbourne Olympics. The Games were uneventful for him, however, after not finishing in the road race and being eliminated in the heats of the 4,000 metres team pursuit. In 1961 he rode in the Tour of Mexico where he had four consecutive podium finishes from stages four to seven and finished eighth overall in the general classification.
