Biography

Vladimir Osokin rode in the colors of Lokomotiv Leningrad. He first competed internationally for the USSR at the 1973 World Championships, riding on the team pursuit squad that placed sixth. In addition to his two Olympic appearances, and the gold and silver Olympic medals, Osokin won five silver medals at the World Track Championships, all in either the team or individual pursuit.

He was second in the individual pursuit in 1975 at the Worlds, and won team silvers in 1975, 1978, 1979, and 1980. Osokin twice rode the Peace Race, in 1975 when he finished 12th, and placing second in 1977. At the Soviet Championships Osokin won the individual pursuit in 1972-73 and 1976, and the team pursuit in 1974, 1976, and 1978. He graduated from the Kirov Leningrad Institute of Textile and Light Industry (now St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design) with an engineering degree.
