In 1967 Ecuadorian cyclist Arnulfo Pozo won the opening stage of the Vuelta al Ecuador. One year later Pozo was selected to compete at the Mexico City Olympics. Whilst he did not finish in the road race, he did place 22nd in the team time trial, with his brother Hipólito also being part of the quartet.
