During the 1940s Canadian cyclist Lance Pugh represented the Victor Cycle Club in Oshawa. At the start of the decade Pugh won both the 25 mile Buffalo City Championship and the half-mile Toronto Championship in 1940. He also won multiple titles in both Ontario and Canada, earning himself a place at the 1948 London Olympics, where he captained the cycling team. At the Games, Pugh competed in both the road race and the 4,000 metres team pursuit. He and teammate Bill Hamilton were both inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.
