Cyclist Wolfgang Schmelzer was a member of the East German track pursuit team eliminated in the qualifying round at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. In 1961, 1963, and 1965-67, he was East German Madison champion with Siegfried Köhler. In 1961-64, 1966 and 1969 he also won team pursuit titles with Einheit TSC Berlin. Schmelzer added further motor-pacing titles. He later became a professional photographer.
