Biography

Ukrainian road cyclist Anatoly Starkov represented the Soviet Union throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Starkov had a good start to his career, which saw him win a stage of the Milk Race in England in 1967. The following year he was selected to compete in the road race at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, but he did not finish the course. Two years later he won his first national title with victory in the team race at the USSR championships. In 1971 Starkov rode in the Peace Race in Eastern Europe, winning stage eight, in addition to having four more podium finishes. In the early 1970s he won stages of both the Tour of Morocco and the Tour of Algeria, in addition to placing 35th in the road race at the 1972 München Olympics. Starkov finished his career by winning the road race title at the 1973 USSR championships.
