Biography

Alois Rameš was a Czechoslovak cyclist who competed during the 1930s. His father, also called Alois, was a pioneer of the sport at the beginning of the 20th century. Thirty years after his father enjoyed success, Rameš continued in the family tradition when he won the junior edition of the Praha- Karlovy Vary-Praha race in 1930. That same year he also became the Czechoslovak champion in the hill race to Hřebenka. His biggest win came in 1931 when he won the 267 km race through South Bohemia. His wins landed him a place on the Czechoslovakia Olympic team as an alternate for the road race at the Berlin Games, but he did not compete. His older brother Bohumil, who was also a cyclist, had competed in the road race at the Stockholm and Antwerpen Olympics. Alois was only 41-years-old when he died in October 1953.
