During his competitive career Eugeniusz Targoński was one of the top cyclists at Legia Warszawa in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Targoński had his best results in 1931, winning the Express Poranny Cup and finishing third in the Polish national road race championships. One year later he won another edition of the Express Poranny Cup, but was later disqualified after receiving an already inflated tyre during the race, which was illegal per the regulations.
In 1936 Targoński was named as an alternate for the road race at the Berlin Olympics but did not start the event. After the war he rode in a couple of editions of both the Tour of Poland and the Peace Race before retiring in 1949.
