Biography

Having played for teams in Hamilton, Ontario and Buffalo, New York, Frank Dixon’s lacrosse experience nearly saw him ruled ineligible to represent Canada in the sport at the 1908 Summer Olympics, as it put his status as an amateur in doubt. After signing an affidavit, however, Dixon, who was then active with the St. Catharines Athletics, was allowed to make the trip. At the Games he earned a gold medal with his team after it won its only match against Great Britain 14-10. Dixon remained active in lacrosse for many years and was killed instantly in a traffic accident in November 1932, after becoming “pinned beneath an overturned automobile”.
