Biography

Field hockey goalkeeper Karl Ördögh was an Austrian team member at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. The team finished ninth and last in the tournament. They lost all matches in the preliminary round, scoring only one goal, against Denmark. In 1932 Ördögh won a silver medal at the European Championships.

Ördögh returned the Olympics at London in 1948 when the team finished tied seventh. He then turned to coaching and led the Austrian national team to fifth place at the 1952 Helsinki Games. At club level he played with Österreichischer Hockeyclub and HC Währing, helping the latter win several national titles.

Ördögh also played ice hockey in winter and participated in the 1934 and 1935 World Championships with the national team. At club level he played with Pötzleinsdorfer SK (1928-32), EK Engelmann Wien (Vienna) (1932-38), Wiener (Vienna) Eislaufverein (1938-39), Wiener (Vienna) Eissportgemeinschaft (1939-42), and later again EK Engelmann Wien (Vienna). He helped Pötzleinsdorf win the Austrian national title in 1932, and EK Engelmann win it in 1936 and 1938. In 1940 he was German champion with Wiener (Vienna) ESG. Ördögh was also an ice hockey referee during his active career, and later played tennis.
