Faissoil Ben Daoud

Faissoil Ben Daoud was a Comorian athlete who became the first flag bearer for the Comoros at the Olympics. Ben Daoud began his career in 1990, competing in the 400 and 800 metres. At the 1994 edition of the Jeux de la Francophonie (“Francophone Games”) Ben Daoud ran in the 400 metres. He also represented the Comoros at the 1997 edition in Madagascar. A year earlier he was the flag bearer for the Comoros at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It was the first time that the nation had taken part at an Olympic Games.

Ben Daoud also set a Comorian record in the 800 metres in 1995, beating the previous national record that had stood since 1959. He finished his athletics career after winning a bronze medal in the 4x400 meters at the 2003 Indian Ocean Island Games. Ben Daoud then worked with young athletes until his death.
