Biography

William Groseclose grew up in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina but moved to St. Louis as an adult where he was a member of the Glen Echo Country Club and worked in the railroad business much of his life. He started as an agent with the Indianapolis & St. Louis Railroad from 1876-79. He then was a clerk with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fee in 1879-80, before becoming an agent and route agent with Adams Express Company from 1880-82.

In 1882-88 Groseclose worked as a clerk agent and general agent with Wells Fargo, also serving during that time as US consular agent at Nogales, Mexico in 1885-88. From 1893-94 he was a commercial agent and general freight agent with Tyler Car & Lumber, becoming commissioner of the Galveston Freight Bureau in 1894-95. After 1895 Groseclose was a general freight agent with the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad.
