Biography

From Columbia Country Club in suburban Washington, Allan Lard joined several others to form the third place golf team in the 1904 Olympics. Lard also competed as an individual, winning one match before losing in the second round. He had two quite important wins in his career, however, winning, in 1907 and 1908, the North & South Amateur championship. Lard was head of a manufacturing company in Washington and was instrumental in getting the company to manufacture steel golf shafts in the late 20s – one of the first companies which offered this new innovation to the public.
