Rudy Scholz was a law graduate of Santa Clara University and practiced in San Francisco for many years. He also served in the army during both world wars, winning a Bronze Star in Okinawa and retiring with the rank of colonel. He was remarkable for his longevity as an active rugby player. Scholz first played for Santa Clara at scrum-half in 1913 and in 1979, at the age of 83, he played his last game against the Irish side, Instonians. To mark his services to the sport, a “Rudy Scholz Day” was held at Stanford in 1981 and a plaque of appreciation was presented to him on the rugby field.
