Biography

György Margó was a versatile athlete. Between 1930 and 1944, as an ice hockey player of BKE, he won six championship titles. He won his seventh in the colors of Ferencváros in 1951. Between 1933 and 1946 he appeared in the Hungarian national team 22 times, and during that period he won two gold medals at the 1933 and 1935 World College Games. He finished 5th at the World Championships in 1934 and 1937. At the European Championships he finished 3rd in 1934, 4th in 1937, 5th in 1933 and 1936 and 6th in 1938.

He was the first general secretary of the Hungarian National Ice Hockey Association, founded in 1942. After completing his sporting career, he became the coach of the FTC ice hockey team.

In athletics, he won the Hungarian championship with the BBTE 4x400 m relay title in 1934. Between 1934 and 1937 he appeared for the Hungarian national team four times. As a hockey player he won the championship in 1932 and 1942 in the colors of Magyar HC. Between 1931 and 1949, he played for the national team 21 times, participating at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
