Biography

Ugo Pignotti made his début in 1917 at a national junior tournament in Milano and in the next few years had top placings in several Italian tournaments. At the unofficial World Championships, he won three titles with team foil in 1929-31, a silver medal in team sabre in 1931, and a bronze medal in individual foil in 1926. In 1927 Pignotti won his first individual Italian championship with the foil. He was also 1930 World Military Champion in individual and team foil. In 1940, Pignotti won his last Italian championship in the foil. Later, he frequently held the role of tournament director.
