Biography

Fencer Ernst Rau of SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken’s participation in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics was the highlight of his career, despite being eliminated in the first round of both the individual foil and sabre. The Saar foil and sabre teams were also eliminated in the first rounds. He was, at the time, the best sabre fencer in Saar. Rau became coach at TuS 1860 Neunkirchen in 1975, replacing his Helsinki Olympic team-mate Karl Bach, who retired from coaching.
