Biography

Hector “Pochín” Ochoa played for the Argentine national side just six times, but was nevertheless a football hero in the Buenos Aires city of Lincoln. When he made his début against Colombia in the 1964 Pre-Olympic tournament, he became the first person from Lincoln to play for the national team. He also played in the ill-fated game in Lima against Peru on 24 May 1964, when an estimated 328 people lost their lives in the worst football stadium disaster in history.

Ochoa started his footballing career with his hometown team, Club Atlético El Linqueño, and then, between 1963-71, went on to play in the Argentine first division with other local Buenos Aires teams Club Atlético Atlanta, Deportivo Móron, and Club Atlético San Telmo, scoring 16 goals in 89 top flight games.

Ochoa moved to Villegas in the early 1970s and was involved with both Sportivo Villegas and Atlético Villegas, where his coaching skills helped the academy team win several championships. He returned to Lincoln at the end of his career and joined Club Rivadavia.
