Biography

Forward Leopold Grundwald was a member of the Austrian football team at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The team won 5-1 against Germany in the first round but was eliminated in the quarter-finals 3-1 by the Netherlands. In the consolation round Austria beat Norway 1-0 and Italy 5-1 but then lost the final to Hungary 3-0.

Domestically, Grundwald played with SK Rapid Wien (Vienna) (1910-22) and helped Rapid win the Austrian Championship seven times, in 1912-13, 1916-17, and 1919-21, and the Austrian Cup twice in 1919-20. He won eight international caps and scored three goals. He turned to coaching in Switzerland after his active career and also became a referee.
