Biography

Armand Swartenbroecks earned 53 caps from 1913-28, which was a Belgian record until 1938, and he was captain of the team 37 times. In 1911 he made his début in the first team of Daring Club de Bruxelles. With his club he was three times Belgian champion (1912, 1914, 1921), playing for the team until 1930 in 295 matches, scoring 28 goals. In 1928 he was made an honorary member of the Royal Dutch Football Association after he intentionally missed an unjustified penalty in a B-international. He was a medical doctor by profession and was active in local politics for the Socialist Party. He served as mayor of the town of Koekelberg near Bruxelles from 1956-71.
