Mohammed Abou Habaga

Mohammed Abou Habaga took up football in his youth on the streets of Cairo and joined Al Masry SC of Port Said’s senior squad in 1941. He stayed with that club until 1945, when he was recruited by Al-Ahly, and would remain with that team until his retirement from active competition in 1953 due to a knee injury. During that time, he won the Egyptian Premier League every year it was available to him (1949 through 1951 and 1953) and six Egypt Cups (1946-1947, 1949-1951, and 1953).

As a member of the national team during this time, he competed at the 1948 London Olympics, where Egypt was eliminated in round one by Denmark, and the 1951 Mediterranean Games, where his country took silver. He later became a coach, working with clubs in Mansoura, Tanta, Beni Suef, and Suez, as well as holding positions in Kuwait for several years. His longest stint was with El Sekka El Hadid SC, whom he coached for a decade. He died in July 1987, after suffering for many years from a blood disease.
