Forward Ralf Schulenberg was an unused substitute for East Germany in their bronze medal match against the Soviet Union at the 1972 München Olympics. The game ended 2-2 after extra-time, and during the extra period, neither team tried to win, because they knew a draw would secure both of them a medal.
Schulenberg played three international matches, all in 1972. Domestically, he played for Berliner FC Dynamo, and helped them win the East German Championship 10 years in succession 1979-88, and the East German Cup twice in 1988-89. After his playing career, he moved to West Germany following reunification, and worked in Krefeld as a trucker, and later in Mönchengladbach as a security guard.
