Biography

Defender Andreas Trautmann was on the East German football (soccer) squad at the 1980 Moskva Olympics that won the silver medal after losing the final against Czechoslovakia 1-0, although he was not on the final squad. In total, he earned 14 international caps and 18 more with the GDR Olympic team scoring three goals. He also played five qualification matches for the 1984 Los Angeles Games, but could not participate due to the Soviet-led boycott of the Eastern countries.

Trautmann played domestically with Dynamo Dresden, helping them to win the 1978, 1989, and 1990 GDR Championships and the 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1990 GDR Cups. In total, he played 267 Oberliga matches, scoring 48 goals with Dresden, in addition to 41 European cup matches with 8 goals. After German re-unification Trautmann moved to Fortuna Köln for one season in 1990 and then returned to Dresden. In 1989 he was elected Football Player of the Year. He later worked as a football (soccer) coach at lower league clubs.
