Biography

Ghanaian footballer Jonathan Kpakpo, also known as Joe Dakota, spent most of his playing career with Hearts of Oak in Accra. Kpakpo captained the side from 1960 until 1970, winning back-to-back league titles in 1961 and 1962. During this time he also played for the national team, including in the football tournament at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Known for his longevity in the game, Kpakpo began his footballing career in 1964 and was still playing by mid-July 1985 before he moved to the United States. In April 2020 he died in hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland after contracting the COVID-19.
