Biography

Subimil “Chuni” Goswami played football for India at the 1960 Roma Olympics.He was captain of the Indian team that won a gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games, where he scored two goals in a semi-final victory over South Vietnam. Goswami also led India to a runner-up finish at the 1964 Asian Cup.

After his football career ended, Goswami became a first-class cricketeer, playing for Bengal for 10 years and in 46 first-class matches. He captained Bengal in 1972 as they went to the final against Mumbai, but he was unable to prevent the Mumbai team from winning a 14th consecutive title. He also played in the 1969 final against Mumbai, scoring 96 and 84 runs in that match.
