Biography

Luigi de Agostini was an all-round defender who spent 16 consecutive years in Series A with Udinese Calcio (1980-82, 1984-86), F.C. Catanzaro (1983), Hellas Verona (1987), Juventus (1988-92), Internazionale (1993) and A. C. Reggiana (1994-95). Despite his longevity in the top flight, he never won an Italian title, but did with the Italian Cup and UEFA Cup with Juventus in 1990. His only other major hour was the Mitropa Cup with Udinese in 1980.

On the international stage, de Agostini made 36 appearances for Italy, scoring four times. He made his senior début in a goalless draw with Norway on 28 May 1987. He went on to play in Euro ’88, and scored against Denmark, as Italy went on to reach the semi-finals. De Agostini also competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul where he played in five matches, as Italy finished fourth, after again reaching the semi-final. De Agostini was a member of Italy’s 1990 World Cup squad on home soil, when they finished third.
