Biography

Vladimir Markov played as a defender for various clubs in St. Peterburg (later Petrograd) including Natsionaly (1907–09), Kolomagyi (1910), and Sport (1911-17, 1919, 1922). As a member of the Sport team, he became champion of St. Petersburg in 1913 and 1914 and cup winner in 1914. With the St. Petersburg team, he won the championship of the Russian Empire in 1912.

In 1911, Markov made his début with the national team, in an unofficial match against England in which Russia was defeated 11-0. At the 1912 Olympic Games, he only played in the first match against Finland. It was to be his only official appearance with the national team. He was included in the national team roster after Mikhail Romm, the captain of the Moscow team, was excluded, probably for political reasons.

Markov died during the siege of Leningrad in January 1942.
