Chico Borja

Chico Borja was born in Ecuador but his family emigrated to the United States in his youth, and he played college soccer (football) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), graduating in 1980. He then joined the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (NASL), playing with them until 1982. In 1983 the US entered a team, Team America, in the NASL, and Borja left the Cosmos to play with Team America. After one year, Borja returned to the Cosmos, and then played in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) through 1992, playing with the Wichita Wings and Los Angeles Lazers. During his playing career he earned 11 caps with the US national team. He also played for the US futsal team that won a silver medal at the 1992 World Championships.

Borja then turned to coaching soccer, starting with the Houston Hotshots of the Continental Indoor Soccer League in 1994, and coaching high school soccer in Houston. He later coached at Rockhurst University, starting in 1998. Borja has also coached soccer and golf at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs, Florida.
