Biography

Nancy Thies was only 15-years-old when she made the 1972 Olympic team out of Urbana High School in Illinois. She placed third in all-around at the 1972 AAU Meet and fifth at the Olympic Trials to make the Olympic team. Thies later attended the University of Illinois.

She became an author and journalist, worked in public relations, and worked with USA Gymnastics in various roles. Thies was vice-chair for women at USA Gymnastics, and was a director of the USA Gymnastics athlete wellness program. She also spent some time as a color commentator on television broadcasts of gymnastics.
