Biography

Ettore Perego competed for Pro Lissone and after he finished competing, Perego coached that team until his retirement in 1978. At the 1948 Olympics he was the Italian standard bearer at the Opening Ceremony, leading the team into the stadium, ahead of flagbearer Gianni Rocca. In the Olympics he helped Italy to a fifth-place team finish, with his best individual finish a 12th on pommelled horse. In his dotage Perego lived in a nursing home in Sesto San Giovanni, but he is among those rare Olympians who lived more than 100 years.
