Biography

Michel Hemmerling represented a Société de Gymnastique Luxembourg from the capital’s district of Clausen. He competed at 1905 World Championships in Bordeaux, where he placed fourth with the team. At the first national trials in January 1912, he placed twelfth. After the final trials in June, Behm was one of 16 gymnasts selected for the Olympics. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm, the team from Luxembourg, including Hemmerling, placed fifth and last in the team event of the free system but missed bronze by less than one point in the team event of the European system. In 1913, he competed at the World Gymnastics Championships in Paris.

Hemmerling was a master roofer. One year after the Olympics, he suffered severe burns in an accident at work. In 1914, he married Anna Brebsom; they had four children.
