Biography

Émile Lanners represented the Société de Gymnastique in Bonnevoie, now a suburb of the city of Luxembourg. In 1911, he competed at the World Championships in Turin. Lanners missed the first national trials for the Olympics in January 1912. Nevertheless, after the final trials in June, he was one of 16 gymnasts selected for the Olympics. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm, the team from Luxembourg including Émile Lanners placed fifth and last in the free system team event but missed bronze by less than one point in the European system team event. In the individual all-around, he placed 23rd. In 1913, he competed at the World Gymnastics Championships in Paris.

Lanners became instructor of his club and succeeded François Hentges from 1942-50 as president of the Société de Gymnastique. He worked as a master tailor like his twin brother Jean Michel.
