Rolf Lie was a member of the Norwegian men’s gymnastics team, which won an Olympic gold medal in the all-around free system event. His father was a typographer and several of his brothers were in the printing business. Rolf, however, worked as a clerk in a trading company and later as an office manager. In 1918, he married Gudrun Bergliot Nordthorp; the couple had just one daughter. Rolf’s elder brother Alf was also a member of the Norwegian gymnastics team at Stockholm 1912.
