Biography

Fausto Padovini was born in Roma but was orphaned at age six in 1903, and was then adopted by Johan Axel Gustav Acke and his wife Eva, Swedish impressionist painters and friends of his parents, who had died during an epidemic. His mother by adoption was the daughter of Zacharias Topelius (1818-98), a well-known Finnish writer in the Swedish language.

Fausto Acke grew up in the city of Vaxholm and competed at the Olympic Games in Antwerpen in the Team All-Around, Swedish System, in which he won a gold medal.

In 1925 Acke married Gerdis Sung, a sculptor and designer. In the same year he moved to Hollywood, California in the United States, where he worked in the film industry. Acke also competed in athletics as a discus thrower, with a personal best of 41.97 set in Stockholm on 13 June 1920.
