Biography

Forward Franz Berghammer was a member of the Austrian field handball team that won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He played two matches during the tournament scoring five goals. Domestically, he played with Linzer ASK. Berghammer was killed in action in 1944 near Babruysk, in what is now Belorussia. He went missing between 24th and 30th June 1944, but his death date was officially determined as 1st July 1944.
